June 7, 2016: With the aim to save electricity, Dakshina Kannda is embracing LED bulbs in a wholehearted manner. At present, 50% homes in the district have replaced traditional bulbs with LEDs.
The scheme was introduced in February 2016 in Mangaluru and 29, 0 32 bulbs were sold that month itself. With regards to sale of LED bulbs, Mangaluru stands in third position just behind Mysuru with 25 lakh and Bengaluru with 48 lakh LED bulbs.
Customers with load of 3kw and over will obtain 10 LED bulbs at Rs 100 each, while consumers with load lesser than 3kw will obtain 5. Customers who don’t wish to pay the price upfront, can get the bulbs with Rs 10 per bulb being deduct in their electricity bill on a monthly basis.
50% homes in Dakshina Kannada have installed LED bulbs
According to Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Karnataka was the best in distributing 50 lakh LED bulbs under the UJALA scheme widely called ‘Hosa Belaku’.
There are around six lakh homes in Dakshina Kannda, with about 30 to 35 lakh present bulbs that require to be replaced with LEDs. The 15 lakh LEDs will see about 65% energy saved when compared to incandescent light bulbs. This will reflect in the load soon ,an MESCOM official said.
In Mangaluru, the LEDs are accessible at one third the market prices at MESCOM sub division offices behind Nehru Maidan, Attavar, Mannagudda, behind MCC office, Kadri and Kavoor. Consumers can also get the offer at MESCOM corporate office near AB Shetty circle and Ullal sub-division office at Thokkottu-Konaje road.
