Apr 5, 2016: The Indian State of Andhra Pradesh is set to launch its very own energy efficiency on a bigger scale and merge it with international practices. The principal secretary of Energy, Infrastructure, and Investment, and CRDA, Ajay Jain said that the planned entity is supposed to be like the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), the joint undertaking of PSUs of the Ministry of Power, which is associated with similar activities.

Jain said that the company is expected to have public sector power utilities such as Discoms, APTransco and APGenco along with State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) as its associates.

Help achieve better efficiencies

The new company is looking to take forward Agricultural Demand Side Management (AgDSM) programs, municipal street lighting and Domestic Efficient Lighting Program (DELP).  The company will take aid from the EESL with the aim to achieve better efficiencies in the division. Two lakh energy efficient pumpsets will be installed under the AgDSM project.

The plan is expected to save 1,620 million units of electricity, besides financial savings of almost Rs.635 crore. Jain informed that the Chief Minister of the State N. Chandrababu Naidu

CM to inaugurate smart streetlights project

Mr. Jain said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurat smart streetlights project in 30 municipalities from Vijayawada via remote control on April, 2016. .The goal is to install 5.5 lakh LED streetlights across 110 municipalities out of which, 3.25 lakh have been installed till date.

The program has been successful in 43 urban local bodies. The energy efficient fan programme will soon be launched in Vijayawada and Narsapur and the price of fans (Rs.1, 100 each) is expected to recover in 24 equivalent instalments payable on a monthly basis.

Mr. Jain further informed that a two-day global workshop on energy efficient lighting and urban experiences and completion practices is scheduled to be held at Vijayawada from April 7, 2016.

The occasion will be organised by the EESL along with Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation,  the government of Andhra Pradesh and World Bank.

The CM will inaugurate the workshop. Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Power, Coal, and Renewable Energy is invited to participate in the event. Over 200 dignitaries from China, the UK, THE US, Korea, Japan, Bangladesh, Brazil and Singapore will participate in the deliberations.
