Andhra Pradesh to light up all villages with LED lights

Aug 1, 2017: Indian southern state Andhra Pradesh has provided LED streetlights in all municipal areas in the state. Now it is aiming to install LED street lighting in all rural areas, and become the first state in the country to do so.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said he will make Andhra Pradesh a completely energy efficient state by installing LED bulbs even in all rural areas. Government of India is making efforts to take up 100% rural LED street lighting program in the state with an investment of Rs.7160 million. Andhra Pradesh has already initiated measures to procure 10 lakh LED street lights through EESL for installation in the gram panchayats. Another 30 lakh LED streetlights will be procured on saturation basis (100%) to cover the other gram panchayats in the state.

Union Ministry of Power will depute a three-member high-level team headed by Saurabh Kumar, managing director of EESL to discuss the operational and financial modalities.

Andhra Pradesh has taken a lead in the country in municipal street lighting and installed six lakh street lights in a very short span and I am sure that we will break our own records and install 40 Lakh LED Street Lights within one year.
