Apple in talks with China’s BOE to supply OLED panels

Feb 24 2017: Apple is reportedly in talks with China’s BOE Technology Group for supply of OLED displays for its upcoming iPhones.

If BOE is included as a supplier for Apple, it will become the first Chinese company to provide OLED displays to Apple.

According to reports in Chinese local media, Apple has already implemented tests for several months on BOE’s AMOLED displays. However, Apple is yet to make a final decision to make BOE a supplier.

BOE is one of the largest OLED display manufacturers in China. It will invest about US$14.5 billion, that is, CNY100 billion, to build two AMOLED factories in Sichuan province.

It is also reported that Samsung has closed a $4.3 billion deal to supply Apple with 60 million 5-inch OLED screens for a iPhone model. Earlier, Samsung had bagged a separate deal for 100 million 5.5-inch OLED panels reportedly for iPhone 8.
