“BPL wants to add energy-efficient LED lighting products to its portfolio,” K Vijaya Kumar, Techno Vision CEO, BPL, told PTI. BPL is currently selling two models of LED lanterns. The company claims that it has already sold more than 89,348 LED lanterns since its launch in 2013.
According to K Vijaya Kumar, India has immense potential market for LED lighting, particularly smart LED lighting products. In 2013, the Indian LED market was worth Rs 1825 crore, which registered 46% growth, he said.
“Currently, BPL will only focus on LED lantern market. In the future, the company will venture into LED smart lighting products for lifestyle segment,” said K Vijaya Kumar. BPL aims to sell 2,75,000 LED lanterns in 2015. It will also introduce a new product line in 2015.
In 2011, BPL had earlier launched its rechargeable LED lantern ?BPL Chirag? for the domestic rural market. In the initial phase, the product was launched in Uttar Pradesh as it has large rural household base.
