B&Q recalls over 43 lamps that are potentially dangerous

By BizLED Bureau

May 2, 2017: Home improvement giant B&Q has issued a serious recall, warning that thousands of its lights could suddenly fall apart and cause injury. The urgent recall is of two types of the company’s shade ring that have been found to be defective.

The alert has been regarding over 43 of B&Q products, like table lamps and ceiling fittings. Thee products have been labelled as “dangerous”.

This is a second alert, as the first similar warning was issued in February 2017, when B&Q identified that 25 of its light fittings made with lamp rings could break without warning.

“If you have purchased one of these products, which uses the shade ring please remove the shade and ring immediately on any affected light fittings, using the original tool supplied, ensuring lights are cool first,” a Trading Standards official stated.

“If you are unable to do this, avoid the potential fall zone until you have been able to organise removal of the lampshade or shades,” he added. “Once the shade rings and shades have been removed ceiling light fittings are safe to continue using as normal,” he stated.

The alert was raised because the company believes that customer safety is of paramount importance, and the company advises that “if you have purchased one of these products please immediately remove the shade and ring using the original tool supplied and contact our customer service team to receive a replacement part.”
