BRICS vow to encourage energy efficiency with LED lighting

July 7, 2016: With the aim to promote energy efficiency and maximize energy savings, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) nations have come together and made an energy efficiency resolution. BRICS is willing to cooperate with one another so that they can work on energy saving agenda in a collective manner. The resolution was made at the international conference of the BRICS working group on energy efficiency. Delegates from all member nations participated in the conference.

BRICS vow to encourage energy efficiency with LED lighting

An official from Union Ministry of Power, India said that notes were exchanged on the experiences of the member nations in encouraging energy efficiency in number of fields such as industry, agriculture and in municipal bodies by promoting LED lighting. Furthermore, he said that the energy efficiency scheme taken up by the AP government like energy-efficient agri pumpsets and LED lighting were also mentioned at the conference.

Answering a question ,the official said that the common man can now afford solar power since the unit rate will soon be reduced to ₹5 a unit. Use of solar power is likely to grow considerably In India.  He also said that by 2030, India plans to have 40% of the installed power capacity in the nation to come from green, renewable sources.
