September 9, 2015: As a as part of its energy conservation program, Indian power company BSES discoms sold about 1.6 million LED bulbs in Indian capital New Delhi since June 2015.
In June 2015, the power companies BSES Rajdhani Power (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power (BYPL) have launched a scheme to sell LED bulbs at subsidized rates. The program expects to save 17 million units of electricity every year.
Under the scheme, customers can buy LED bulb through easy monthly installments. They can buy four 7W LED bulbs at a subsidized price of Rs 93 (US $1.40). Consumers can also choose to pay upfront of Rs 10 per bulb, and the balance in nine installments, which is directly charged on their electricity bill. The LED bulbs come with a three-year warranty.
