Feb 14, 2017: China-based OLED display panel makers are making investments in OLED technology. BOE Technology will aid the the government of Hefei City, central China, to set up an OLED platform in the city to boost development of OLED technology and production of OLED panels. The platform in Hefei will focus on development of medium- to large-size OLED panels.
The platform will be extablished with an investment of US$145 million (CNY1 billion), and BOE will invest CNY600 million, with a 75% stake. BOE’s subsidiary, which is based in the city, will operate the platform, and through it, BOE will cooperate with upstream and downstream partners to develop OLED technology.
BOE will invest CNY46.5 billion to set up a 6G AMOLED factory for flexible OLED panels for smartphone and tablet panels.
China Star Optoelectronics Technology will also set up an OLED production capacity at its 11G factory which will be completed in mid-2019.
EverDisplay Optronics (Shanghai) is also starting the construction of a 6th-generation (6G) AMOLED factory. The factory will have a monthly production capacity of 30,000 1,500mm x 1,850mm glass substrates (including flexible units) in Shanghai City, eastern China, at an estimated total investment of US$3.95 billion (CNY27.278 billion). Its trial production will begin in January 2019 and full utilization of capacity to be reached in 2021.
Tianma Micro-electronics, Truly Opto-Electronics, Royol and Visionox are also set to invest in expanding AMOLED production capacities.
