Dec 20, 2016: With demand for fine pixel pitch LED displays rising in the global as well as China market, several China-based and Taiwan-based LED packaging service providers are expanding their production capacities to meet the rising demand.

The global fine pixel pitch LED display market is expected to generate revenue of $3.1 billion by 2024, increasing from $677.1 million in 2015. This means that the market will hit 15.8% CAGR from 2014 to 2024.

On the other hand, China’s market value for fine pixel pitch LED displays grew from CNY1.55 billion (US$247 million) in 2015 to CNY4.65 billion in 2020.

China-based LED packaging service providers are focus on 1010 and 0808 packaging for fine pixel pitch LED displays. In 2016, Foshan Nationstar Optoelectronics, a China-based LED packaging service provider, expanded 0808 and 1010 packaging capacity for LED displays with fine pixel pitches of 1.5-2.0mm. In 2017, it will start using 0606 packaging in LED displays with smaller pitches between LED chips.

In 2017, MLS will expand its LED packaging capacity by 50%. The rest of the 50% capacity will be used to manufacture fine pixel pitch LED displays. In the third quarter of 2016, MLS had expanded monthly capacity from packaging 50 billion LED chips to 60-70 billion units at the end 2016.
