February 10, 2015: Now you canAdd Media have a sunny sky inside your home or office. This has been made possible by the Italian company CoeLux, which has developed a new light source that replicates sunlight through an LED skylight and makes it so natural that it can trick both human brains and cameras.
The LED skylight is quite high-tech, which has been designed to replicate sunlight and lit up interior spaces that have been cut off from outdoor natural light. The maker of CoeLux wanted to create realistic sunlight, and bring it inside where sunlight cannot reach. Hence, they wanted to recreate the atmosphere.
Professor Paolo Di Trapani, 52 is the founder of the EU-funded natural lighting project CoeLux, and a specialist in optics and experimental physics at the University of Insubria, Italy. He believes that innovation has most value when applied to solving real problems. According to him, innovation will be useful ?as long as the technology is meant just as a practical thing which solves some problems?.
Professor Paolo Di Trapani used a thin coating of nanoparticles to simulate sunlight accurately, and the effect is called Rayleigh scattering. It is not just the color temperature that is the same, the quality of the light feels the same as well.
CoeLux has been designed for places that need sunlight like hospitals, gyms, offices, underground parking structures, etc, now these places can be lit with CoeLux and the sunlight atmosphere cab be brought in these places.
How CoeLux works?
CoeLux is an optical system based on nano technology to artificially reproduce the natural light and visual appearance of the sun and sky. CoeLux offers a breakthrough opportunity for indoor architecture by creating the sensation of infinite space.
CoeLux offers three types of settings?CoeLux 60, for those who prefer the more dramatic tropical light. CoeLux 60 offers an additional solution in a skylight with cooler, vertical sunlight, and the maximum luminance contrast of light and shadow.
CoeLux 45 is for the lovers of the Mediterranean basin. CoeLux 45 is a skylight that feature a 45 degree ceiling beam that offers an equal balance of light and shade, enhancing the shapes and volumes that have historically flourished in outdoor architecture.
CoeLux 30 is for the enthusiasts of Nordic countries. CoeLux 30 is available with a 30 degree angle beam relative to the horizon. It is a wall window and is capable of reproducing a warm, grazing light.
However, CoeLux is currently very expensive–?40,000 ($61,000) to buy and ?5,000 ($7,600) for installation.
