May 4, 2015: Consumers with no pending arrears against them will get LED lights at subsidised rates in Indian city Lucknow, UP. Under the Union government?s Centre’s Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP), LED bulb worth Rs 400 will be given at Rs 135. The scheme will start in Lucknow in June 2015.
These LED bulbs consume 85% less electricity while they illuminate like any other good bulbs. By switching over to LED bulbs, consumers can cut down electricity bill. A single LED bulb of 7W can save Rs 180 per year.
The Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) is currently preparing the list of consumers for distribution of LED bulbs at subsidised rates. A domestic consumer with a meter load of up to 2Kw will get five LED bulbs at subsidised rate while those having a higher meter load will be given maximum 10 LED bulbs. These bulbs will be distributed at the billing centres of LESA.
