August 3, 2015: Indian city Cuttack has still not gone the LED way, as it is yet to light up the streets with LED bulbs, even a year after announcing the project.

In June 2014, the city had announced to install LED street lights at identified places and replace all traditional bulbs in a phase-wise manner. But the city has not yet to carry out the survey work to identify the areas.

The LED streetlight project for the city will help save energy and bring down power bills. The city civic body is currently spending Rs 60 million a year on street lighting and another Rs 5 million on their maintenance. There are 17,832 street lights in the city. The LED project when implemented will help the civic body financially and improve the the environment as well.
