June 14, 2017: As LED lighting players increase LED device inventory levels, global demand for LED chips and devices that are used in LED lighting products is likely to decline in the third quarter of 2017, according to a report.
As demand for LED lighting continues to increase, it is pushing continual hike in LED chip and device prices. As a result, LED lighting manufacturers have procured LED devices in excess than actual demand in the first half of 2017, leading to high inventory levels.
LED chip maker Epistar has fully utilized its production capacity for blue-light LED chips that are usually used in LED lighting since March-April 2017. However, the company feels that demand may significantly decline in the third quarter.
