Aug 10, 2016: Energy Efficient Services Ltd (EESL) is set to distribute LED tube lights across India at Rs 220 each as against the current market price of Rs 800. A chief ESSL spokesperson said that the company has received a tender for procurement of one crore LED tube lights on minimal bid of Rs. 140 per piece of 20-watt tube light.
Furthermore, the spokesperson said that the LED tube lights will cost about 210-230 including taxes and storage charges. These ready-to-use lights do not need supporting fixtures and use less than half as power as traditional tube lights.
Annual saving of Rs 350
Switching from traditional tube lights to LEDs will lead to a saving of Rs 350 on an annual basis. This means that the consumers can recover the price in a period of 7 to 8 months. The 18-20 watt LED tube light is an easy replacement for the traditional 42-watt ones which is priced around Rs 200 per piece. The lowest bid of Rs 140 per piece is a sharp decline from the previous discovered price of about Rs 300 per unit. Companies like Philips, Surya RoshniBSE 2.55 %, HavellsBSE 2.22 %, Crompton GreavesBSE -0.83 % and Osram India are set to take part in the procurement procedure.
ESSL to distribute LED tube lights across India at Rs 220 each
Provided the scale, and the resultant reduced in price, the uptake of LED tube lights is going to be a success story of these light bulbs. ESSL should concentrate on making sure that all government procurement for lighting is LED-based. EESL plans to distribute the LED tube lights from October along with the distribution of LED bulbs and energy-efficient fans. LED tube lights are going to be offered under upfront payment scheme and in easy monthly installment scheme as well.
