Sep 6, 2017: As the LED lighting market value in Southeast Asia in 2016 is estimaed to be at US$1.9 billion, and expects to grow fast due to replacement demand, Feilo Sylvania, a lighting manufacturer owned by China-based Shanghai Feilo Acoustics, has entered into the Taiwan LED lighting market by launching LED light tubes, bulbs and streetlamps. The company is also setting up marketing bases in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
In 2015, Shanghai Feilo Acoustics had acquired 80% stake in Sylvania and renamed it as Feilo Sylvania. It aims to increase its stake in Feilo Sylvania to 100% by the end of September 2017.
Since 2016, after GE withdrew from Asia’s LED lighting market, Feilo Sylvania has taken over most of GE’s marketing space in Southeast Asia and Taiwan.
Feilo Sylvania believes that Taiwam market will generate an annual demand for LED light tubes of about 7-8 million units. It is, therefore, aiming to sell 500,000 units initially to enterprise and commercial users. Feilo Sylvania keeps its prices for LED light bulbs in between those offered by Philips and local vendors. For example, the retail price for a 10W light bulb will be NT$119 (US$3.9).
Feilo Sylvania also aims to win local governments’ procurement of 5,000-10,000 LED streetlamps in 2017. Feilo Sylvania expects its sales from Taiwan to reach US$5 million in 2017, US$10 million in 2018 and US$15 million in 2019.
