Nov 24, 2016: Greater Noida is all set to explore the implementation of intelligent and multi-purpose LED street lighting systems, which goes far beyond just lighting the city. Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) will set up smart streetlight poles across the city, and will soon flout tenders for the same.
The smart multi-application poles streetlight poles will have with LED lights, CCTV cameras, and Wi-Fi routers. These smart LED lighting system turn the city into a Wi-Fi zone, and will also send information to central control room. GNIDA will then look into smart parking solutions and smart traffic lights.
The LED streetlights will also support the telecom companies by doing away the need for separate mobile towers.
Swedish company Ericsson has also submitted a project proposal, which includes LED street lighting, parking solutions, traffic lighting, and smart city bus stops. The company has already implemented a similar model in Bhopal and Kolkata.
The smart and connected LED street lighting will enable to scale up the city’s needs and help the citizens to have a more connected, energy-efficient and a safer environment.
