How about an LED bulb as a birthday gift?

Nov 24, 2015: Have you ever imagined of gifting a LED bulb as birthday gift to a friend? If yes, you may notice a surprised look at your friend?s face, but you will certainly get a thumbs up from the Indian Power Minister Piyush Goyal.

The Power Minister, government of India, promptly retweeted one Sujit Patel, who tweeted of gifting LED bulbs to friends on birthdays. The Minister’s retweet indicates the extent to which he would wish Indians to adopt the LED bulbs.

The Domestic Energy Lighting Program (DELP) of Power Ministry is trying its best to promote replacing LED bulbs with all the other category of lights and bulbs all across the country.

Electricity Distribution Company and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) are also providing LED bulbs at discounts at Rs 100 or 105, cheaper than the market price between Rs 250 to Rs 400. It is also offering 3-year free-of-cost replacement guarantee. You can buy LED bulbs either by paying Rs 100 upfront per bulb or under an EMI scheme in which one can pay Rs 10 as an advance per bulb, and pay remaining Rs 95 per bulb in 10 easy monthly instalments.

EESL claims that LED bulbs provided by them consume only one-tenth of energy compared to bulbs available in the market. Using these LED bulbs, one can reduce electricity bills by up to Rs 160 to Rs 400 per bulb.
