Indian railways plan to install LEDs at stations

Indian railways plan to install LEDs at stations

September 5, 2015: With the aim to contribute to energy conservation in India, North-Eastern railways (NER) plans to install solar power panels and energy efficient LEDs in all its stations and offices. Provisions for installation of energy efficient LED lights at NER railway stations, including Manduadih and Varanasi city stations, have already been made. NER has conserved about 32 lakh units of electrical energy, saving revenue worth Rs. 2.33 crore. The distribution of LED lights for conservation of energy is being done in railway colonies as well.

According to NER spokesperson, Ashok Kumar, the NER railways wants to install LED lighting to resort to energy saving. It has also installed LEDs in the nameplates of all the six stations under NER including Manduadih station and other offices. It will also phase out all incandescent bulbs from the railway premises and replace them with more energy efficient T5 fittings are also being considered.
