Indian state AP to replace old tube lights with LED lights

Dec 15, 2015: Encouraged by winning five prestigious National Energy Conservation Awards 2015, the Andhra Pradesh (AP) government has decided to take up one more significant program of replacing existing old conventional tube lights with LED streetlights in rural areas.

State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has emphasized on the need to focus on this task to be taken up in some 12,900 gram panchayats of the state in a phased manner. It is expected to save about 200 MU per annum apart from reducing the burden of power bills on Gram Panchayats. He has instructed the State Energy Conservation Mission as well as Energy and Panchayat Raj departments to devise a perfect mechanism for implementation of the program. Naidu said that the state is proud to be the frontrunner in the country on the Energy Conservation front which also attracted the attention of Universal Energy experts at Paris Climate summit.

Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction over the distribution of more than 10.2 million LED bulbs in the state so far, i.e. 1/3rd of 30.7 million distributed in the country. He directed the Secretary Energy to complete the process of the distribution of 20 million LED bulbs to 10 million families by March 31, 2016. Andhra Pradesh has also achieved the distinction of installing 20.5 million LED streetlights in Urban Local Bodies as against 50.5 million LED streetlights erected in the country.

The Chief Minister has also emphasized on the usage of LED bulbs and usage of star rated electrical appliances, which would help the consumers in the form of reduced electricity bills and leads to environmental protection and reduction of the CO2 emissions for the benefit of next generations. The state government will give maximum priority to environmental protection programmes in order to conserve precious natural resources and support the Central government initiative for furthering the cause of the International Solar Alliance.

Naidu said, ? I am very happy that my proposal of forming International Solar Alliance placed before the high level team of Central government headed by Piyush Goyal, on the occasion of the signing of MoU for 24 X 7 power for all scheme, has transformed into a reality now. The media had also supported us by highlighting the concept of forming the International Solar Alliance in the lines of SAARC to exchange the technology for reliable, affordable and environmental friendly solar power to everyone.?

Since energy conservation is a noble cause for the entire universe, the entire official machinery of the state should gear up to make National Energy Conservation Week 2015 a success, to highlight the need and significance of Energy Conservation.

Earlier, BizLED Bureau had reported that Andhra Pradesh stands number 1 in the country by crossing 10 million LED bulb distributions. It?s a major achievement in helping the humankind in reducing green house gases and protecting the environment as well as reducing the electricity bills.

Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu has expressed happiness over the way the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme ( DELP) scheme is being implemented in the state to help the consumers in reducing their electricity bills apart from reducing the burden on the power system.

Encouraged by these results in energy conservation, Naidu has further set targets for SECM and discoms and other key departments to make AP as the best energy efficient state in the country as well as in the world. CM has also conveyed his best wishes to the officials of the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) Ministry of Power, Government. of India, the Energy Services Company (ESCO) involved in procurement and distribution of LED bulbs as part of DELP programme. National level distribution of LED bulbs has crossed a level of 30.15 million, out of which AP alone has distributed 10 million.
