Nov 24, 2014: The state government will officially launch LED light bulbs scheme from December 11, 2015 from Mysuru. Speaking to media, energy minister D K Shivakumar said that chief minister Siddaramaiah will launch the project in Mysuru.
Shivakumar said that the government intends to replace sixty million ordinary bulbs with LED bulbs. The government has roped in three to four companies for the purpose of supplying these LED bulbs. Shivakumar said the government will provide a maximum of 10 LED bulbs with each bulb having a maximum of 9 watts per household.
The consumer can initiate two modes of payment– either paying Rs 100 per bulb, upfront or pay Rs 10 initially and utilize EMI scheme of Rs 10 being added to the every month electricity bill. The government intends to subsidize close to Rs 300 per bulb by implementing Domestic Efficient Lighting Program (DELP). The bulbs will be supplied under the DELP scheme with the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) being the nodal agency. The EESL will stand guarantee for three years to replace the bulbs in case of failure or defects.
