Nov 8, 2016: With the aim to reduce energy use and global warming, the Indian state of Karnataka is set to promote LED lighting in both urban and rural areas across the state.
The Karnataka government will perform its best to promote LED lighting in urban and rural areas across the state to save energy and help check global warming, according to a state government official.
As a semiconductor device, LED converts electricity into light and offers energy efficient lighting. Karnataka needs to reduce electricity usage by converting to LED from traditional lighting, and promote modern lighting and switching system, added the official.
The Karnataka centre of the Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE) has organised a three-day expo on ‘Vision 2020’ where lighting industry can showcasing technologies and products for smart lighting by using LED on an extensive basis.
Speakers at the conference deliberated on the effect of LED on health and well-being, compliance and standards, use of renewable energy for lighting and overall growth in the lighting industry.
Karnataka’s Electronics Sector Skills Council of India will execute a workshop to impart skills to technicians on how to install the lighting products.
The core focus is on lighting as an application and its effect on overall well-being. A road map will be drawn for the utmost use of LED by 2020 across India for national, commercial and industrial use, according to the official.
