According to LEDinside, Apple’s switch to the display material from LCD to OLED will have a significant impact on the LED backlight business. While the market of mobile LED backlight is shrinking, it will be eventually replaced by OLED. By 2017 end, the percentage of OLED display adoption will increase from 22% to 27%.
After Apple’s introduction of 3D sensing technology on the iPhone X, other companies will follow suit. Topology, a division of the global market research company TrendForce, expects that from 2017, the market for 3D sensing solutions, usually used in mobile devices, will witness significant growth. The total value of the global market for 3D sensing modules used in mobile devices is estimated to reach US$1.5 billion in 2017 and is predicted to grow at a CAGR of 209% to around US$14 billion in 2020.
The iPhone X sports Quad-LED True Tone flash, and its light sources are CSP LEDs. As new generation smartphones are becoming thinner, calling for LED light sources to be smaller as well. As a result, according to LEDinside, the value of the flash LED market worldwide would to grow to US$ 811 million in 2017.
