May 2, 2015: About 400 LED lights at the cost of Rs 4,000,000, will be installed in Jammu city, the capital city of Indian state Jammu & Kashmir.
This initiative will not only save energy, but will also reduce the load on the system, informed JS Slathia, In-charge, Electrical Wing of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC). The energy that will be saved can also be used for other purposes, he added.
Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has already started the tendering process to buy 400 LED lights.One sodium vapor lamp of 250 watts will be replaced by LED light of 70 watts. In the first phase LED lights will be installed on the bridges over Tawi, flyovers and on the main roads.
As per official data, there are around 33,000 street lights of different kinds in different areas of Jammu, and its outskirts. Gradually all these traditional streetlights will be changed to LED streetlights.
