September 25, 2014: As part of a ?green drive for green city’ Jamshedpur Utility and Services Company (JUSCO) has installed LED streetlights across the steel city.
JUSCO, the 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Steel which provides the municipal services under Tata Steel command area, has chalked out a plan to replace conventional high power sodium vapour (HPSV) lighting with LED.
As part of the drive, 400 LED lights have already been installed. GE Lighting, a leading multinational in this field, offered lighting solutions with very high reliability and a low defect rate.
Highlighting the benefits, JUSCO claimed that the innovative technology being used by GE for manufacturing LED, it brings down the energy consumption by over 54% as compared to the conventional lights.
As about 20% of a town’s electricity consumption was attributed to street lighting, the installation of LED streetlight would prove great energy saver in the interest of nation, JUSCO said.
