January 8, 2015: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of Indian state Andhra Pradesh has asked the energy department of the state to install LED lighting throughout the state under the LED lighting program by March 2016.
Chandrababu Naidu asked every stakeholder like the manufacturers, suppliers, etc to get involved in the energy conservation program of the state so that the end users get maximum benefits, says a State Energy Conservation Mission press release.
With the aim to protect the natural resources, environment and ensure sustainability of the power sector, Andhra Pradesh has decided to implement energy efficiency and conservation programs in coordination with the Union government.
The state will implement the program to distribute LED bulbs for each household and replace all conventional street lights with energy efficient LED lights.
Naidu said energy conservation requires the active involvement of the people throughout the state and country to to meet the targeted energy savings.
According to a report of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Andhra Pradesh has the potential to save up to 24% energy of the total requirement of about 55,000 million units (mu) per in the state by adopting LED lighting.
