June 30, 2015: LED lighting manufacturers of India are trying to cash in on the opportunity that will arise from the Narendra Modi government scheme to distribute two LED bulbs at the cost of Rs 10. This scheme will not only phase out inefficient incandescent bulb, tubes and halogen lamps, but also boost LED lighting applications across the country, and open up immense business opportunities for the domestic manufacturers to expand their production capacity to meet the demand that is expected to increase significantly.

Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturers Association (ELCOMA) has estimated that the LED industry in India will grow to Rs 200,000 million by 2020, from Rs 40,000 million in 2014.

Havells India President Sunil Sikka who is also President of ELCOMA, told PTI that Havells will take this opportunity and is moving steadily towards LED lighting products. He said that about 40% of the company?s luminaire manufacturing has shifted to LED and this transition will be faster in 2015.

According to Sumit Joshi, Head, Marketing, Philips Lighting, “The recent government LED scheme will help consumers to adopt LED lighting, and this will benefit the LED lighting manufacturers and other stakeholders.

Surya Roshni Managing Director Raju Bista also believes that the government LED scheme will increase the demand for make-in-India initiative. Surya Roshni is expecting to earn a revenue of Rs 5000 million from its LED products in the next three years.
Orient Electric is also gearing to meet the increased demand for LED lighting products and will switch more than 50 per cent of its production capacity from CFL to LED. The company has already started making LED lamps and will product 9 lakh LED lamps per month by the end of February 2015,” said Orient Electric Senior Vice President and Business Head, Lighting Puneet Dhawan, reports PTI.
