Rise of OLED
The industry experts have forecasted that the OLED market for mobile phone displays will increase from 13% to 34% in 2012, owing to heated demands from Chinese companies. LED income for backlighting in handsets was projected at $686 million in 2015. However, by 2021, the market is likely to fall to $455 million,
Almost each and every mobile phone shipped in 2015 had at least one camera, and 86% of them possessed a secondary camera as well, even though not every camera had flash. The industry analysts believe that the handset flash LED market may decline a little in 2016, owing to smaller number of handset shipments.

Nevertheless, the mobile phone LED market will start to develop again from 2017 to 2020, due to improved penetration of secondary camera flash applications as well as of color LEDs. In addition, it is likely that the LEDs used in handset keypads will decline, however they encompass only a very small fraction of the market.
