An LED module can function either on its own, or can be plugged into a compatible unit for power. A vital component of LED lighting, LED modules are filament-free and use an electrified semiconductor as the source of light. LED modules can be of any colour, which usually depends on the material used to emit light.

While an LED module of single colour is usually of white, green, yellow or red, those for RGB colors are colour-changing modules with various colour emitters.

Consumers can go in for LED modules with remote phosphor technology that increases the efficiency and lifecycle of the LED modules. At the same time, it reduces its colour shift and heat dissicipation. Remote-phosphor systems can provide uniform light from a large emitting surface, and can eliminate the need for a secondary optic to achieve the desired light distribution.

LED modules with plug-and-play technology includes embedded driver IC that helps it to eliminate any components to be attached externally. These LED modules also offer dimming and non-dimming features. These also have the advantage of efficient lighting without the need for costly upgrade. It requires fewer lumens and reduces waste.

LED modules with Bluetooth-based wireless communication offer a low-power wireless LED lighting solution, helping the LED light to be connected to any device. It also makes the lighting solution smart, which can be operated with your smartphone.

Consumer awareness

Consumers should be aware that the specifications for indoor and outdoor LED modules are quite different. While LED modules used for outdoor lighting have a high wear-and-tear index compared to those used for residential lighting. Outdoor LED madules are weather-proof and can withstand harsh conditions. On the other hand, the LED modules used in indoor applications are more delicate and are less bright than those used for outdoor applications.

LED modules with high correlated colour temperature (CCT) are generally more energy-efficient. Also, LED modules with a colour rendering index (CRI) of 90 is more efficient. The Power and lumen flux is also am important factor to look for, Different power LED module will get different lumen flux—the bigger power, the higher lumen.
