Aug 7, 2017: LG has confirmed that its next smartphone will feature an OLED screen. This confirmation came immediately after a news that Samsung will use a gigantic OLED screen for its upcoming Galaxy Note 8.
LG also confirmed that its next device, likely to be the V30, will feature plastic OLED FullVision display. The six-inch screen will be the largest on a phone that LG has released, the company said. The display will cover 109% of the DCI-P3 color space and support HDR10, with VR performance. It will be LG’s first OLED phone since the G Flex 2.
With Apple using OLED display on its next iPhone, smartphone giants like Samsung and LG have also jumped into the bandwagon.
LG said it is keen to penetrate the OLED smartphone screen business, to enable virtual reality and other content-led services on mobile. It aims to use a 1,440 x 2,880 resolution display, which will be of plastic, and will be protected by Gorilla Glass 5.
This will not be the first time that LG will adopt an OLED screen. It had put one into the experimental G Flex 2 two years ago. LG just invested $7 billion into its OLED production capabilities.
