June 23, 2017: LG Display has developed the world’s largest flexible and transparent OLED display, claims the company.
The display is a 77-inch diagonal, and has a resolution of 3,840×2,160 pixels, It also has a transparency of 40% and can be bent to a radius of curvature of 80mm.
LG Display has developed the flexible and transparent OLED display as a part the national Future Flagship Program. It has invested a total of 126.2 billion won ($110 million) on developing the large display.
In 2012, LG Display was chosen by the government to head the project, leaving behind its rival Samsung Display.
“The completion of this large flexible and transparent display is expected to contribute to expanding new OLED markets,” said Kang In-byeong, a chief technology officer of LG Display, at an event to showcase the technology held in Seoul.
At the event LG Display unveiled some applications like a smart desk and a reality aquarium, based on the large flexible display. LG Display also demonstrated thin transparent LED films for use in digital signage and for interactive architectural features. The company believes that large flexible and transparent OLED displays could complement such applications.
