Apr 25, 2017: With auotomotive LED lighting market fast growing, EMS provider Lite-On Technology and LED packaging service provider Everlight Electronics have entered production of LED automotive headlights, while Genesis Photonics, an LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker has provided flip-chip LED chips for CSP (chip-scale packaging) for use in automotive headlights.
Not all manufacturers can make LED automotive lighting product lines due to technological barriers, and high specifications in brightness, heat dissipation and product stability.
Lite-On Technology has supplied LED automotive auxiliary lighting products for US- and Europe-based automakers, and has thus obtained certification for LED automotive headlights from Asia-based automakers. Lite-On Technology will, therefore, start production in 1-2 years.
Everlight Electronics has also started production of LED automotive lighting products at its new facility in central Taiwan, with monthly packaging capacity to be expanded from 200 million LED chips to 800 million units. Everlight Electronics has also supplyed LED automotive direction lights and brake lamps to China-based automakers and LED automotive taillights and daytime running lamps to Europe-based manufacturers. It has already started to ship LED automotive headlights to Asia-based LED automotive lighting OEMs.
Genesis Photonics supplies to Taiwan- and China-based makers of LED automotive headlights. It may enter China-based OEMs supply chains in second half of 2017.
