Now Mumbai streets will be lit by LED lights

January 5, 2015: Mumbai streets will soon be lit with energy-efficient LED lights. They will replace the conventional street lights in the city.

?In the first phase, all the street lights at Marine Drive will be replaced with LED lights in the next 20 days,? said Ashish Shelar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mumbai unit chief and MLA, said at a press conference. ?Next, the traditional street lights at Bandra, Mulund and Colaba will be replaced with LED lights,? he added.

The Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the LED street light installation at Marine Drive stretch on January 31.

By implementing this LED street light project, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will save up to Rs 1640 million annually,? Shelar said.

The project will be implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited, who will also develop a computerised operating system for LED street lights. Under the new project, about 132,458 roads with street lights in Mumbai will be replaced with LED lights.
