April 13, 2015: Indian state government in Rajasthan has decided to illuminate the streets in urban areas with energy-efficient and smart LED street lights. The state government will replace 16.5 lakh traditional streetlights with LEDs in 44 municipalities over the next two years. In this regard, it has signed an MoU with a public sector company.
Out of these 16.5 lakh traditional lights, 1.5 lakh LED lights will be installed on Jaipur streets.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector company under the Union Ministry of Power, will invest Rs 10,000 million in the project that would help the state save about 266 million units of energy per year. Rajasthan will annually save Rs 2180 million.
