OLEDWorks finally acquires Philips OLED lighting business

Nov 7, 2015: OLEDWorks has finally acquired Philips? OLED lighting business. Few months back OLEDWorks had announced that it would buy Philips’ OLED business, including the production facility located in Aachen, Germany, and relevant IP.

Now OLEDWorks has announced that the process of acquisition has been completed. It has re-branded their website and all their digital properties to integrate Lumiblade products and maintain a smooth transition for new and existing customers.

OLEDWorks has also declared that Lumiblade FL300 L, a rectangular (46×222 mm) FL300 variant, launched in April 2015, is ready to be shipped. The FL300 L has 2900K color temperature and efficiency of about 50 lm/W.

Philips had given OLEDWorks a license by to market its OLED light source components under the brand Philips, while Philips remained as a distributor of LED panels through its OEM sales channels.

OLEDWorks was established in 2010 by Kodak OLED business experts, and is the only US-based OLED lighting producer. It developed a proprietary low-cost production process and got three DoE grants to further develop its OLED technology.

In July 2014, Acuity Brands unveiled new applications for its Marker OLED luminaire, which uses Amber OLED panels made by OLEDWorks. OLEDWorks is also cooperating with Corning to develop flexible glass-based OLEDs.
