Osram ensures small size products with maximum performance

July 14, 2017: The biggest challenge lighting designers face is the appropriate technology and its incorporation as part of the function of the device.

Osram changes its technology and products as per the needs of the time. In the 1980s 12v tungsten halogen lamp and its transformer were introduced, and, since then, Osram’s lighting products come with a chunky box attached to the side of it.

Designers and manufacturers of LED components are constantly working to reduce the size of the product, hence the supporting technology should take less space. They also have to ensure that the size reduction does not compromise with the performance of the light source.

According to Osram, there is a balance-point between the electronics having zero dimension, and understanding that reliability of the equipment, and this is what makes a successful luminaire.

Optotronic FIT LT2 S is a compact constant-current driver from Osram that allows multiple lumen packages, hence, a lighting designer do not have to bother to design different packages for different power ratings—the 15W, 25W and 40W drivers have the same form factor, at 97mm x 43mm x 29.5mm.

The small device can adjust the output current by connecting an external resistor, which provides the choice of driver output current from 150mA to 1050mA, depending on the combination of driver rating and resistor.

Osram’s PrevaLED Core Z6 Mini LED module takes miniaturisation to a new level. It has been designed to operate with Osram drivers like FIT LT2 S driver. The small size of the Core Z6 Mini helps the designer to create luminaires with smaller and shorter reflector systems, without compromising the performance of the luminaire. The Core Z6 mini has a light-emitting surface of 13mm diameter, in a mount that is, itself, only 35mm in diameter.

The Z6 Mini operates at up to 3450lm output and has a lifetime of 60,000 hours (rated L80/B50 and with Tp = 65°C). The LED module is available with an Ra>80 for colour temperatures of 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and an Ra>90 for 3000K and 4000K outputs.
