November 20, 2014: Osram Opto Semiconductors has launched Soleriq P 13 chip-on-board (COB) LED, which has increased flux output to 6800 lm, significantly. The packaged LEDs are for applications like retail, where a tight beam pattern and high centre beam candle power (CBCP) are required. Besides retail, these packaged COB LEDs are also suitable for high-powered museums and other commercial applications.
COB with high output
Osram has launched this packaged COB as the trend today is for smaller sources that enable improved beam control for directional lighting. LED manufacturers are now boosting lumen output related to the size of LES (light emitting surface) to provide directional LED products. For example, Cree doubled the output of COB LEDs from 6mm to 12 mm. Philips Lumileds also offered COB LED of high output 9 mm.
“Customers would be able to compare P 13 with the earlier launched Soleriq S 19, which has similar light output of 4000lm-5000lm,” stated Mark Dyble, product marketing manager, general lighting, Osram. “The new Soleriq P 13 has dimensions that are smaller and thus it is suitable for more compact lighting solutions,” he added.
The new COB LEDs deliver 4000 lm at 80 CRI when operating at 85°C and 1050 mA; or 3300 lm at 3000K CCT and 90 CRI. However, the drive current can be doubled for maximum level of output.
Osram?s new product can use less expensive lenses and is simpler compared to larger COBs.
