November 25, 2014: Philips unveiled a dimmable, flat 75W equivalent version of its existing SlimStyle bulb. This new bulb has an output of 1,100 lumens. It is a significant leap as its 60W equivalent has an output of 800 lumen.
The uniqueness of this LED bulb is that it is flat. This flat design helps to push heat away from the LEDs inside, hence no aluminum heat sink is required. A bulb without a heat sink means much less material used to develop the bulb; also it weighs much less and easy to ship. All these features justifies its low cost.
The new LED bulb consumes 13W of power, and has a lifespan of about 25,000 hours. Another unique feature is that despite its asymmetrical design it produces omni-directional light. The new 75W equivalent LED bulb has been certified by Energy Star.
?With SlimStyle, we gave the consumers an LED bulb with high quality, which was also affordable. Till date, it was the best-selling LED bulb by Philips,? said Bruno Biasiotta, president and CEO, Philips Lighting, Americas. ?By developing the 75W equivalent, with Energy Star rating, we further gave the consumers quality LED bulb which saves their money,? he adds. The LED bulb costs US$12.97, but due to some in-store rebates, the price gets cut down to $7.97.
