Prices of LED package products likely to go down in 1Q18

Jan 11, 2018: LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, has stated that prices of LEDs in high-power and mid-power segments did not witness any obvious changes, but prices of LED package products are likely to go down in 1Q18. The prices of LED package products in China, however, were stable in December 2017.

Major suppliers in China have lowered the prices of LED chips in the last few months of 2017, but the prices of LED package products have not been immediately reduced due to the long purchase cycle, states LEDinside analyst Terri Wang, Although some authorized agents of LED package products have reduced the prices for some orders, the average price in the market has not seen much changes in December 2017.

As the prices of LEDs remain stable, manufacturers have upgraded the product performances, and put development focus on segments with higher growth rate in industrial lighting and outdoor lighting. For example, Cree has launched the new extreme density high-power LED, which delivers a lumen density of more than 284 lm/mm 2.

Taking opportunity of the situation, Chinese manufacturers have expanded their business to the automotive lighting by further investments and acquisitions. For example, CEC-Kaistar has obtained patents of chip and phosphor by acquisition of Bridgelux and Intematix. Kaistar has also invested in automotive lighting modules.
