September 14, 2014: Pune Municipal Corporation officials said that the civic body would install about 10,000 light emitting diodes (LED) streetlights across the city, replacing the existing high pressure sodium vapour lamps (HPSV).
Bapu Karne, chairman of standing committee, told reporters that a total of Rs 21 lakh has been approved for LED street light installations.
Recently, state authorities had announced that Agartala, the capital of Tripura state in India, will also have LED streetlights. The state?s Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) will be responsible for replacing existing streetlights in Agartala with LED streetlights. LED streetlights were also installed in Kolkata.
