May 3, 2017: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is all set to install LED streetlights throughout the city with the help of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture with the Union ministry of power, responsible for implementing various domestic efficient lighting programmes.
The municipality board has passed a proposal to install 16,000 LED bulbs on polls that are without any lights, and replace the existing 16,000 sodium vapour lights and tube lights throughout the city.
The LED streetlight project will cost about Rs 430 million. The power consumption of the existing streetlight, which is currently 4.42 MW, will come down to 1.93 MW when replaced with LED lights. As a result, the state will be save Rs 32,00,000 per annum.
EESL has signed a MOU with the state government to put up 1,00,000 LED bulbs across the state. It has started by installing up 2500 LED bulbs.
