Dec 9, 2016: The Japanese electronic manufacturer Sharp has developed green laser diodes. The pilot projects of the lasers are being done at its Mihara plant in Japan. Sharp will start mass production of lasers at its facility in Fukushima.

By March of 2018, Sharp plans to close its LED and laser diode plant in Mihara. It would transfer smartphone camera component manufacturing to its facility in Fukuyama.

Sharp has earlier supplied red laser diodes to manufacturers making audio and visual equipment, but has never sold blue laser diodes despite possessing the technology.

Besides green laser lighting products, Sharp has also developed RGB lasers. The company is shipping these laser components to projector manufacturers.
