Sharp to enter semiconductor and OLED domains

Dec 30, 2016: According to an open letter from Hon Hai Group Vice President and Sharp President Tai Jeng-wu to Sharp employees, Sharp will undergo significant changes and move in a more practical direction in 2017.

The letter said that in 2017, Sharp will continue to invest in semiconductor and OLED technological developments.

Tai Jeng-wu mentioned that in the last four months, Sharp has made decisions on 59 agenda items, and soon its strategies will take a new and more active direction.

Tai Jeng-wu said that Sharp’s growth would be promoted from three major directions. The company has decided to get into more innovations, hence, it will consider the scope of collaborations with IoT companies. It will also get into new business operations by entering into the domains of semiconductors and OLED.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, Sharp has made a profit, and this will be the first time in the past two years that Sharp’s operations have been profitable.
