Nov 11, 2015: Now Central New Yorkers can expect more jobs coming to the region and these jobs fuse nano-technology with clean energy. Soraa, Inc., a California-based LED company, would build a manufacturing facility in Syracuse.
Soraa’s products are used in museums and hotels. The lighting company was formed in 2007 and is on the cutting edge of LED development. “We are able to produce a semi-conductor chip that’s smaller, brighter, more efficient than anything out there,” said Soraa CEO Jeffrey Parker. “This is a next generation of LEDs developed by the father of LEDs.”
The state is investing $90 million in Soraa, including tax benefits. The private investment is $1.3 billion and is expected to creat 420 jobs in high-tech research, design and manufacturing.
“We hope that we can attract the best and brightest scientists and engineers, and we’re really looking forward to that,” Parker said.
Construction is already underway and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
