April 24, 2015: All those who want to still hold on to their incandescent light bulbs, may now be tempted to loosen the grip and shift to LED light bulbs.

The prices of LED bulbs are continuously coming down. Philips? new 60-watt equivalent LED bulb, will be sold at only $4.97 once they go on sale in May at Home Depot. Philips earlier 60W equivalent was priced at $9.97.

Philips has once again partnered with The Home Depot to set the standard for LED bulb affordability with the new Philips LED family of products. The Philips LED A19 product line will cost just $4.97 without utility rebates, making it the most affordable 60-watt LED bulb in the market. The Philips LED bulb uses just 8.5 watts of power.

To tempt the masses, Philips offers two of the new bulbs for $5. This scheme will be open for 3 months. This is cheaper even than a two-pack of GE incandescent 60w bulbs.

?We continue to look for ways to bring the latest innovation at great prices, and the new Philips LED A19 is an example of that,? said Joey Corona, Light Bulb Merchant, The Home Depot. ?This price brings all the benefits of LED in a great quality bulb to a level everyone can afford and benefit from.?

What more, Over the 10-year life of a Philips LED, the 60-watt equivalent will cost just $1.02 per year to run, saving $62 over the life of the bulb, as compared to a traditional incandescent. In addition to a 60-watt equivalent that is available in a 2700k warm white and puts out 800 lumens, the bulb will be available in 60-watt daylight 5000k, and 100-watt A19 LED equivalents. Unlike other 100-watt LED bulbs which are a larger A21 size, the new Philips LED bulb 100-watt is a true A19 equivalent.

?From the introduction of SlimStyle to our premium offerings that dim with a warm, familiar glow and this latest offering, Philips has continued to innovate and drive affordability and choice in the consumer LED market,? said Amy Huntington, president of Philips Lighting Americas. ?However, we also understand that quality LEDs should not be a luxury or something that only those that live in areas with robust utility rebate programs can afford. With this bulb, consumers have a quality, day-to-day option for any area in their home that is as good for their wallet as it is for the environment.?

The latest Philips LED bulb joins an industry leading portfolio that includes Philips Hue, the world?s leading connected lighting system for the home. From the innovative design of SlimStyle to the optics of Clear Bulb with DiamondSpark, Philips has been at the forefront of LED technology, offering the most advanced and broadest range of bulbs on the market to suit any design aesthetic. With superior light quality and supporting the most popular fixture types, Philips LED products continue to usher in a new era in lighting.

Now, besides many other benefits of LED lights, like energy-efficiency, long-lasting, falling prices is another major reason to shift to LED lights. In fact, over a long enough time horizon, LED lights may end up saving you money.
