Vishakapatnam installs 96,000 LED bulbs

December 20, 2014: Vishakapatnam has installed 96,000 LED bulbs within a short span of time?and perhaps it is the highest LED installation in the world within a short span of time. The city is likely to be dedicated to the nation by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Energy Saving Corporation of India (ESCI), which has installed these LED lights, requested Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the facility. Modi has been promoting energy efficient light sources and has asked all government departments to use LED lights. He has also requested state governments to replace all conventional street lights with LED lights. The state government of Andhra Pradesh is hopeful that the prime Minister will accept the invitation as he is himself promoting saving of energy in the country. The LED bulbs were installed by ESCI along with its contract companies, and will be maintained by it for the next seven years.

?If he fails to make it personally, he may do it through a video conference from Delhi. However, the Prime Minister appreciates the effort made by Vishakapatnam to shift to LED lighting system,? said Urban Development Minister P Narayana in a press release.
