November 2, 2015: Vishakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) has decided to install LED lighting in the port area. This decision is a part of its commitment for power conservation. The decision has been welcomed by A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, CEO of State Energy Conservation Mission.
MT Krishna Babu, VPT Chairman, has urged the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) to facilitate the port to install LED lighting in all working areas and roads, docks, berths etc, in the port area. This initiative will save power by about 45 per cent.
Krishna Babu will work out the modalities and will prepare a detailed project report in coordination with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Central government undertaking. Under the project about 3000 units of 120 watts LED street lights will be installed. These will replace 250 watts high pressure sodium vapor lamps.
