Dec 2, 2016: ams (Premstaetten, Austria) has added an integrated white-tunable smart lighting manager—the AS7221. LED lighting manufacturers who will design with AS7221 will be able to integrate high-precision CCT or ‘Kelvin-tuning’ capabilities into their Internet of Things (IoT) smart lighting offerings.
The architecture includes an I ²C extension interface, and positions the AS7221 to deliver “Internet of Awareness” IoT sensor hub platform capabilities for sensing functions such as air quality, temperature, occupancy, and presence.
Features of AS7221
The AS7221 comes with an integrated tri-stimulus CIE XYZ colour sensor get precise colour sensing with direct mapping to the CIE 1931 colour space. A fully integrated luminaire control system, this smart lighting manager is compatible with standard 0-10V inputs. It is suitable for IoT connectivity and network control through standard clients like Bluetooth Smart, ZigBee or WiFi, and its functions through a complete Smart Lighting Command Set.
LED control for spectral tuning is implemented through direct PWM channel outputs, resulting in a high-precision solution that reduces development and integration time when compared with more bulky discrete component approaches. It enables control integration directly into the luminaires.
The AS7221 comes in 5 x 5 mm LGA package, to be integrated into luminaires and lamps. It provides colour point tuning, and smoothly controlling CCT transitions between configured warm and cool white LED strings within a luminaire. Besides the colour- and CCT-tuning functions, AS7221 consists of automatic configuration support for ams’ TSL4531 ambient light sensor for turnkey daylighting capabilities.
