Wipro shuts down lighting manufacturing facility at Mysuru

July 14, 2017: Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting said that due to increase in demand for LED lighting, and with the changes in the market and technology scenario there has been a sharp decline in the demand for CFL products.

As a result, over the last two years, Wipro has seen a sharp decline in the demand for CFL products, forcing it to cut down production at it facility.

As a result, Wipro has closed down its lighting manufacturing unit at Mysuru, Bengaluru due to a sharp decline in the demand for CFL products, with the increasing preference for LED products. To run the plant that manufacture CFL lighting products was becoming commercially unviable.

All 84 workmen have been offered voluntary retirement scheme by the company. Wipro has evaluated all possible options and kept the plant operational of over a year at low production levels that are economically unviable.
